- Laivasähkötyö got the electrical work done with the sulphur washing system,
which was delivered by Wärtsilä Diesel, onboard Containership VII during the
docking at Turku Repair Yard in Naantali.
With the installed washer, the vessel will meet the future sulphur dioxide
emission (SOX) requirements in the SECA area.
History
The 1960s
In 1962, Heikki Hietarinta set up a partnership called Laivasähkötyö & Partners in Turku. The company operated in a garage and employed four persons.
During the sixties, the company moved several times. In 1964, the operations were moved to the basement of a block of flats on the Autistenaukio square. Two years later, the company moved again to downtown Turku on Aurakatu street. A store selling electrical supplies was set up at the same time. By 1969, the business had expanded so much that the manufacturing of distribution boards had to be moved to the basement of the owners' house on Tikkumäentie.
The year 1967 was a difficult time for Laivasähkötyö, as for many other Finnish companies. The Finnish mark was devaluated by 24 per cent. At the time, the company had a backlog of orders for several years ahead, and the unexpected devaluation caused profitability problems for years to come.
